Route Description
The Route
Starting from the Glenfarg Village Store (or from parking on the main road B996), head up Ladeside and over the A9 via the zig-zag footpath. Noting due to two sharp 180-degree switchbacks this may be challenging for people towing trailers, tandems or adaptive cycles.

Immediately after crossing the A9 the route joins a tree-shadowed country lane. A few hundred yards up the lane is the Arngask Home Farm horse box, a treasure trove of cakes, bakes, savories and drinks open 6am-10pm 7 days. Payment is by PayPal or bank transfer, or cash if you have the correct amount.

Continuing up the lane you turn right onto a quiet, well-surfaced 40MPH Walking & Cycling-Friendly road. As you ride the Lomond Hills loom into view, and will dominate much of the ride. The road curves around to the left and climbs, the views improving further.

After a left turn the road climbs past a cross-county equestrian centre to a corner at Forester Seat Cottage at the 4km mark.
At this point you decide whether to do the full figure-8 ride, or turn left to short-cut back to Glenfarg.
For the full ride, you turn right at Forester Seat Cottage and follow the road for another 300m, before turning right onto a grassed track with a gate.

Head through the gate (remembering to close it behind you) and down the track for 400m, turning left when you reach the gravel driveway. This drive loops through the settlement of New Fargie, a collection of newer houses and farmyard. At 5.5km just as you turn right there is a stunning view north down Glen Farg and to the hills on the opposite side of the Tay Estuary.

The gravel drive continues down to the bottom of the hill, then turns sharply back right uphill at a crossroads with signposts to the properties. After a short climb the route turns left and backtracks along the grassy path, through the gate and back to the sealed road.

Back on the sealed road the route heads north, with extensive views over Perthshire and even a glimpse of Loch Leven off to the left. Past Conland Farm you turn left, then right to backtrack past Ardgask Home Farm, down over the A9 and back to the start.
